“I think you need a dose of Tim Gunn Medicine.” Tim Gunn, Season 9 – Episode 1
High fashion, social drama and 6-inch heels, what more can you ask for in a reality television show? Since 2004, Project Runway by Eli Holzman, has been a household name in the fashion world and in many living rooms. Twenty designers compete for the ultimate title – Project Runway Winner. Tim Gunn is the stylist consultant and host of the show.
Each week contestants design, sew, and then models strut their stuff on the runway. Judges choose the best and worst design each week. (Judges include Heidi Klum, model; Michael Kors, fashion designer; and Nina Garcia, Marie Claire fashion writer.) The winner each week gets immunity and cannot be kicked off the show the following week. The three worst designs are brought before the judges and one contestant is out each week.
The final three finalists go to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and present their own line of clothing. The winner receives $100,000 to start their own collection, $50,000 to pursue their careers and exposure through various mediums. The winning designer’s model will receive a spread in Marie Claire and $25,000.
Many of the shows winners have went on to create their own clothing lines, star on other reality shows, host talk shows, and write for major magazine publications.
